Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Principal Welcome – Mrs. Jolene Reimer (Same principal- New last name):
I imagine that those “Back to School” feelings have shown up in many of your households. A new school year can be exciting for some and rather scary for others. I have had many “first days of school” and yet each year I still have a range of feelings myself. This year LES feels less new and more like home to me. I am excited to see what this year will bring. Our staff has been busy getting the space ready to welcome students back. Wait until you see how shiny our gym floor is! It is a joy to hear teachers sharing their new ideas and enthusiasm. We are committed to doing our best to provide a safe and caring learning environment for our students. Our three guiding words are – Belong, Learn, Care. We welcome you in partnering with us to help our students learn and grow this year. We look forward to connecting with our students on the first day of school, Thursday, September 10th!
Communication:
Our school maintains active communication with families through the website (les.hsd.ca), Instagram (@landmark_elementary), and messaging apps like BRIGHTARROW and Seesaw.
New Staff:
Mrs. Ashley Malyk (1/2M), Mr. Reiden Tichit (5/6T) and Mrs. Tina Plett (Music) have joined our teaching staff. Terri Plett and Cindy Doerksen have joined our EA team. We are excited for these new additions to our incredible LES team. For a list of all staff, please visit – les.hsd.ca.
Meet the Teacher Night:
Wednesday, September 9th, from 4:30 to 6:00. Families are invited to come by and meet their teachers. We find that visiting the school can help with some of the worries that students may have. We value positive relationships with our LES families as we know it supports student learning!
Parent Portal:
Please provide permissions on the Parent Portal (Walking Field Trips for all students and Responsible Use of Technology Agreements for new students) and update contact information. It is essential that we have updated contact information for emergency situations and attendance calls. Please note if your child is not at school, we will contact the parent/guardian and if we cannot get a hold of you, we will contact the emergency contacts.
School Supplies:
School supplies have been charged to the student accounts. Payment can be made on the Parent Portal or by cash or cheque to the school office. Thank you to those who have already paid. The minimum payment on the Parent Portal is $10. Payment can be made in installments; statements will be sent out at the end of every month to let parents know if they have an outstanding balance.

8:35 – Supervision on the playground
8:55 – Students enter the school
9:08 – O Canada and announcements
10:35 -10:50 – Recess
11:50 -12:50 – Lunch and Recess
2:20 – 2:35 – Recess
3:37 – Dismissal
End of Day Default Routine/First Day Pick Up
At ‘Meet the Teacher’ or via email, parents will be asked to share the default end-of-day plan for their children. It is important that we know how they are getting home daily. If the plan changes from the default, let your child’s homeroom teacher and the office know as soon as possible. This is especially important for the first day, as we know many parents like to pick up or drop off on the first day even if that will not be the default.
Pick-up and Drop off:
We ask that parents only park by the school on the west side of the road. Parking on both sides of the street is dangerous as students move between cars.
Do not drive through the bus loop before or after school (or during 11:20-30 during kindergarten pick up).
If your child takes the bus, the bus driver will contact you with details as to the pick-up time. If you are eligible for busing but choose not to have your child take the bus, notify the school.
Dismissal begins at 3:37 in the following order:
- Early Bus Students
- Vehicle Pick-up – If your child is being picked up, you must notify the school. We ask that you collect your child/children as quickly as possible as we want to clear the area for our students who walk and our late bus students
- Walkers
- Late Bus Students
Please note that dismissal takes longer the first week of school as we get into the routine of loading our buses.
It is essential that you notify the school if you are making changes to how your child is getting home or with whom they are going.

Library News
We are excited to welcome our students back to the library! Please return your summer reading packs as soon as possible, and bring your Summer Reading treasure maps by September 30th, when we will draw for 2 exciting prize packs. Remember to include student names and parent signatures. 
The Scholastic Book Fair will be returning to LES this year, November 23-27. We look forward to seeing you there.

Volunteer Information:
To volunteer at the school in any capacity, you must complete the process required by the Hanover School Division. As the paperwork may take a while to process, it is a good idea to start early so that all checks are in place if and when you want to volunteer. We appreciate and value our volunteers.
Please contact the school office if you would like to start the volunteer process or need to know if your checks are still valid.
**Please note that every year volunteers need to approve the “Annual Declaration” that is sent out via email
