K-6 Summer Fun Day – June 26

On Friday, June 26, all students in K-6 will be participating in a fun day with running, jumping and throwing activities. Some of our stations will involve water if students want to cool off and get wet. There will be a slip-and-slide set up for one of our stations, so students may bring a bathing suit and towel to school if they wish to participate in the water stations. Other options will also be available if they would rather stay dry. We encourage all students to apply sunscreen at home, wear a hat, bring a water bottle and a bathing suit and towel or an extra set of clothes.

Summer Reading

Did you know that “Kids can lose up to three months of knowledge (e.g., foundational reading, writing, and math skills) in the break from school” (unitedforliteracy.ca)?

At LES, we want to make reading fun! Take part in the Landmark Elementary School Summer Reading Program to help keep your child entertained and supported this summer.

  • Follow the Summer Reading Treasure Hunt. A map will be sent home for Kindergarten to Grade 3, and Grades 4 to 5. You can also print from here:

  • Complete as many sections as you can, and be entered to win one of two reading prize packs. Every 6 steps = 1 entry
  • Return your map in September. Make sure it is signed!

Reading resources can be found in many places.

  1. Borrow a reading pack from school. Your child may take up to 10 books home for the summer. Email jfroese@hsd.ca by June 22nd.
  2. Visit Landmark’s Little Free Libraries (at the Landmark Arena, Archie Plett Park, 1st Ave North & 1st St. West, and the park in the Landmark East development).
  3. Local libraries! Get a free library card from the Bibliothèque Tache Library,  or visit the Jake Epp Library in Steinbach for a $20 Summer Membership special.
