Dear Landmark Elementary Families,

As some of you may be aware, the RM of Tache has shared their intent to begin road work on Second Street East shortly. Second Street East will become one lane traffic with a North bond flow. Our bus loop will be closed completely but our staff parking lot will be accessible. We are working together with the RM, the construction contractor, and Hanover School Division to create the best plan to safely and efficiently get our students to and from school during this time. The road construction will temporarily close the street directly in front of Landmark Elementary School. During this time, we will need to make some changes to our regular arrival and dismissal routines. Starting Thursday, September 17.

Our priority is to ensure that students can travel to and from school safely while keeping traffic moving as smoothly as possible. The following temporary transportation plan will be in place for the duration of the road closure:

School Bus Pick-Up & Drop-Off
All school bus pick-up and drop-off will temporarily take place at Landmark Collegiate. Students who travel by bus will be supported in safely moving between the high school bus area and Landmark Elementary. LES staff will be at the LC location to assist and supervise students during arrival and dismissal. We will have LES staff assigned to walk with students from LC to LES.

We will begin with a test run of this new bus procedure on Tuesday. This will give students, staff, and bus drivers an opportunity to practice the new routine and allow us to make any necessary adjustments before the road closure is fully in effect. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this transition.

Parent/Guardian Pick-Up & Drop-Off
Families who drive their children to and from school will use the Landmark Elementary staff parking lot as the temporary pick-up and drop-off area. We ask families to proceed slowly, follow posted directions, and be especially mindful of students and pedestrians. Students will be waiting by the school, please park and walk your children to the car to avoid children running into the busy parking lot. This will also be the Pick Up and Drop off plan for Landmark Childcare.

To help accommodate the increased vehicle traffic in this area, staff parking will also be temporarily relocated. This will allow us to dedicate more space to safe and efficient student pick-up and drop-off.

Safety for Walkers/Bikers
Construction will also change the regular flow of traffic near the school and create some congested or heavy construction areas in the walking routes. The sidewalks on Second Street will remain open for pedestrians. Based on the proposed plans, one corner that may become difficult to navigate will be Second Street East and Sand Piper Trail. To support students who walk to school, a crossing guard will be stationed at this corner for the duration of the construction. Students and families are encouraged to use this supervised crossing whenever possible.

A Few Ways You Can Help
Please allow a little extra time for arrival and dismissal, reduce your speed around the school and construction areas, follow all temporary signage and staff directions, and talk with your child about any changes to their regular route to and from school.

We recognize that these temporary changes may require some adjustment for families. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we work together to keep our students safe.

We will continue to monitor the transportation plan and communicate any changes as construction progresses. Once the road reopens and it is safe to do so, we will return to our regular arrival and dismissal procedures.

Thank you for helping us make safety our shared priority.

Sincerely,
Jolene Reimer- Principal
