Completion of Term One

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 23rd, from 4:00-8:00. The following day, report cards will be posted on the Parent Portal by 4:00. We have decided to have the parent-teacher conferences before the report card as it allows the teacher to connect with the parent about the child’s learning, providing the context for reading the report card. We encourage all parents to attend the conferences as a strong home connection supports student learning. This week, a follow-up letter will be sent with details on registering for a parent/teacher conference.

No School – Friday, November 24th – Professional Development Day

Speech and Language Program and Divisional Literacy Support

As of this week, divisional speech and language and literacy programming have resumed at LES. It had been paused due to the strike.

Healthy Snacks and Breakfast

Please help your child pack their lunch and limit the amount of sugary treats. We also are asking that students do not eat their treats until lunch. Starting the day with treats/sugar does not set them up for a day of learning. Please contact Kailey Penner, our guidance counsellor, if you need assistance providing food for breakfast, lunch or snacks.

Landmark Senior Blues Hockey Team

On Friday, November 17th, some of the  Landmark Senior Blues hockey team will join our Friday gym classes to play some floor hockey with our students.

Winter Weather

As we move closer to Winter, the chance of inclement weather increases. School cancellation and bus delay information is available on the website at http://hsd.ca. Please also see the HSD Weather Guidelines. Parents/caregivers can help our students be prepared for their walk to school and recess activities by dressing them in layers and ensuring their child has a toque, mitts and warm winter boots. Warm winter clothing is essential in Manitoba, and facial protection is recommended. Including extra socks and mittens in your child’s backpack will ensure they have dry replacements if needed. Please note that when students get off the bus in the morning, they will stay outside on the playground until the 8:50 buzzer rings, so having them dressed in winter gear when they get on the bus prepares them for their time outside.

Christmas Concert – Tuesday, December 19th – Save the Date!

Kindergarten to Grade 3/4 students and the Grade 5 and 6 choir are starting to prepare for the Christmas Concert. Our grade 4/5 and 5/6 classes will perform at our Spring musical. The Christmas Concert begins at the Landmark Prairie Rose Church at 7:00 pm. We thank the church for sharing its space with us as it provides a bigger and more beautiful venue than our school gym.
